Playa Negra

Share

Playa Negra is a digital painting of the black beach on the beautiful Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Playa Negra means, literally, Black Beach. It’s colored this way due to volcanic lava mixed with the sand, but it makes a beautiful sand that is as fine and soft as the tan sand farther south on the same coast. This is from a photo I took in November, 2010, north of Cahuita, Costa Rica. The waves were so high and powerful that they created a mist that rose up from the water like a fog.
