My Solo Art Show in Smyrna

I am showing 26 of my paintings in a solo art show in Smyrna, at the public library’s gallery. I also have two paintings in display at the Smyrna City Hall. The library art show is on display through July 5th. The press release below the photos explains the theme of the show and gives the library’s hours and address.

Smyrna, Georgia – May 15, 2019 / – Visual artist Shelly Leitheiser announces today that her solo art show at the Smyrna Library is open to the public.

Shelly’s new solo art show “Environments, Real and Imagined” is on display at the Smyrna Public Library in downtown Smyrna. The exhibit consists of 26 paintings in watercolor and acrylic. The art ranges from abstracts in acrylic to more realistic watercolors of animals and landscapes. The show was arranged by the Friends of the Smyrna Library.  The dates for this show are May 11, 2019 through July 5, 2019.

Shelly Leitheiser is originally from Minnesota. She moved to Georgia in 2014, and creates her art in her Marietta studio.   She is an award-winning and classically educated artist who employs a lot of experimentation in techniques and variations in themes of nature and science in her artwork.

Regarding this art show, Leitheiser stated, “I am very pleased and honored to be chosen by the Friends of the Smyrna Library for this solo show. It is especially nice to be recognized locally because the library is very near where I live and work, and there are many talented artists in the area.”

Leitheiser is an environmentalist and many of the paintings in the show reflect her respect for animals, especially endangered ones, and nature science.

You can see more paintings by Shelly Leitheiser at the City Hall in Smyrna, where the Smyrna Arts Council has installed an exhibit of several local artists, on display through July.

Shelly Leitheiser Art

Environments, Real and Imagined

I’m a visual artist and illustrator, originally from Minnesota.  I studied fine art at the U of M, and have a classic art education combined with an active imagination. I had an art studio and exhibited in many art venues in central MN and Minneapolis. I moved to this area in 2014 and I’ve been involved in many art shows and art fairs in Atlanta since then.

So far I work mainly in acrylic and watercolor, and love experimenting with different methods and types of art.  You may notice I have a mixture of styles, which is deliberate, so I never categorize my art style because it changes a lot.  I am interested in art to make an interesting image, but often, also to convey a message or idea.  My main interests in doing artwork are portraying nature, environmental issues,  and human interaction with nature, and this takes my art to a lot of interesting places. I can paint animals and landscapes with equal interest, and abstracts too.

Sometimes my art will go into the fantasy realm or I’ll paint something space-themed.  In any case,  I strongly believe that artists need to express their own voices and interpretations of their ideas and interests as they wish. I try to keep my work as original as possible . . . but I do have a lot of favorite sci-fi artists, as well as more down-to-earth artists, that inspire me.

As an artist I’m always searching for something fascinating, and it’s never hard to find. In the future I plan to do more illustration and digital art so I can realize even more possibilities.

Thanks for viewing some of my artwork, and you can see more of it at www.fineartsouth.net
